Over 120 people, including politicians, senior figures from the construction industry, colleges, training organisations, finalists and their families and supporters, gathered on the House of Commons Terrace to celebrate the achievements of the 2013 finalists.
George Clarke told us how he first became interested in construction; aged 8, when he helped his grandfathers who were both builders. He became fascinated with the whole building process and despite leaving school aged 16, worked his way up to become an architect. He said that all the finalists were winners, who had achieved so much already.
Stephen Ratcliffe, Director of the UK Contractors Group and Chair of the Judging Panel described the difficult task he and his fellow judges had in choosing the finalists from the excellent applications received, and even harder how to choose the winners.
The winners were announced by our sponsors; our thanks to Stephen Ratcliffe of UKCG, John Meedan of Toolstation, Debbie Akehurst of Land Securities, David Shaw of Places for People, Paul High of Orbit Homes, Paul McCrea of Durkan, Paul Chandler of Skanska and Rob Lockey of NHBC.
The Awards Ceremony was a great day out for all involved.
