New Judge for the Young Builder of the Year Awards

Youthbuild UK are delighted to announce that Martyn Price MBE, Workforce Development Director of O’Halloran & O’Brien has agreed to become a judge for the Young Builder of the Year awards.

He brings a wealth of experience, from beginning his working life as a carpentry apprentice to being Chair of the Cross-Industry Construction Apprenticeship Task Force, and fully understands what is required to become a successful young builder.

Applications for the 2018 Young Builder of the Year Awards are now open

Applications open on 1st June and close on 31st July.

The Young Builder of the Year Awards celebrate the achievements of young people who despite having to overcome personal barriers have succeeded in training for and or gaining employment in the construction industry.

The competition which began in 2000 is open to young builders from across the UK and is now entering its 19th year.

The twenty finalists will be invited to the Awards Ceremony, which will be held at the House of Commons on Wednesday 17th October 2018, when the winners will be announced.

We are seeking applications from young builders who are: –

  • in employment and/or training aged between 18 and 24 years old.
  • still in education or training (including apprentices) aged between 14 and 18 years old.

For 2018 there is a prize fund of £7,500 and all shortlisted finalists will receive a certificate and tools prize and have a trip on the London Eye.

Subject to the judge’s discretion the winner of the 18 – 24 year old category may receive up to £1,500 (including tools), with further awards to the runners up.

 

The winner of the 14 to 18 year old category will receive up to £750 (including tools) and their educational establishment will receive tools worth up to £500.

2014 Young Builder of the Year Awards Launched

Rt Hon Nick Raynsford MP, President of Youthbuild UK launched the 15th Young Builder of the Year Awards today, 6th May 2014.

He said “I’m delighted to launch the 15th Young builder of the Year Awards to celebrate the achievements of young people, who despite having to overcome a range of barriers have succeeded in training for and or gaining employment in the construction industry.

This launch is timely, following as it does on the recent call from the All-Party Parliamentarians’ Inquiry No more lost generations, for a major expansion in training and employment opportunities for young people in construction.

The finalists will be invited to the Awards Ceremony on Wednesday 15th October 2014 at the House of Commons, when I very much look forward to meeting them.”

Judges Announced

Youthbuild UK announced the judges for the 2014 Young Builder of the Year Awards today, 1st May 2014.
